The Chilton Family vacation has come and gone. We spent 7 wonderful days on the East coast of South Carolina on Hilton Head Island. This was our first time visiting the island and we LOVED it! I believe we may have found our new family vacay spot. The island is beautiful and very quiet. It's not so "touristy." Although the beaches can't compare to those of the Gulf Coast, the island is very quaint with lots of family stuff to do. We spent time on the beach, went crab fishing, saw some lighthouses, and drove into Savannah one day. Overall, it was a perfect family vacation. I have tons of pictures to post, but right now you can enjoy the pics from our first day, since I have lots of laundry to do and I have to get ready to go back to work tomorrow. *sigh* Back to the real world....
We spent our first full day playing on the beach ALL.DAY.LONG. We were a little surprised when we walked out that morning to see so much beach. We had walked on the beach the evening before after we arrived at our condo and got settled in. It was late evening and the tide was high and there was essentially no beach there. The next morning when we got to the beach, it was HUGE. Seriously, there was probably 200 yards of sand, which had not been there the night before. What can I say? We are first timers to the East Coast. It was a little unexpected. Since we were first timers, we also did not think to set up camp WAY back from the water. Lesson learned...we ended up moving our stuff 4 times while the tide was coming in!
